Happy Campers!

What a terrific first week of bringing the Big Heart Art experience to Blue Lotus Studio in Evanston. I am so grateful for the opportunity to promote your daughter's creativity through art-making in this truly inspirational environment.

Contact Daisy at (312)714-6510 or creativitygrows@gmail.com for information on how your daughter can join the fun!

This happy camper commented, "At first, I was worried it was going to take forever to make this basket. I kept working on it even though it was hard. It got easier. I did it and I love it!"

"Now I have an idea what to do with the sewing scraps I have at home!"

These girls definitely have big hearts!

Learning to create a nurturing environment

When I see a beautifully glazed piece of pottery, I will examine it, delve into the patterns and colors, wonder how it was made... and eventually consider if the novice potter in me could replicate the technique. This joy of examining pottery inspired me to recreate the delightful sensation in my painting experience. Most of my paintings start out as layers of washes that bear a strong resemblance to glossy ceramic glazes running together on a surface.

By providing a relaxing space for girls to be creatively free and work collaboratively, I believe I'm giving them an opportunity to experience the beauty of self-nurture among peers. My intention is for these experiences to inspire every girl to recreate her own nurturing environments as she moves into healthy adolescence and adulthood.

What Your Child's Heart Desires

I shut my eyes in order to see.-- Paul Gaugin

Between ages 2-11, children today view 25,000 advertisements a year on TV. That excludes product placement or marketing through internet, cell phone, mp3 players, video games, school buses, and in school. Our modern child needs support and encouragement to see her true self, hear her innermost voice, honor her feelings, and express her fullest potential.

Are you daunted by the task of defending yourself from the $17 billion effort that companies spend marketing to children? Forget swine flu, blind consumerism is the real epidemic!

How do we protect our children from a colossal force that influences eating disorders, precocious sexuality, youth violence while hindering the ability to play creatively?

Actually, we can't. Television screens capture audiences at grocery check-out lanes and in elevators. Sequestering children in bubbles or filling every spare moment with structured activity-- unhealthy too. However, we can consciously direct attention toward hassle-free play and exploration in natural environments. One way is to foster a sense of wonderment and appreciation of the present moment. You can give your daughter the time and space to shut her eyes to the bombardment of suggestive images and see her wholesome truth.

Your daughter benefits by creating through her hands-- making art that stems from her heart or crafting her own uniquely designed accessories. The sense of pride and accomplishment gained from taking an idea to form through painting, sculpting, sewing... is empowering.

I am super-excited to share a personalized, heart-centered summer experience with you and your family. Starting July 2010, BIG HEART ART will provide girls 7 -12 with beautiful days filled bonding with her inner truth and nurturing self-esteem through nature outings, art making, and genuine friendship.

Stay tuned for more details!

Tons of Joy to You!
